Our 800 year old Parish Church is part of the national Small Pilgrim Places network, which invites people to PAUSE, PONDER, REFLECT, SLOW DOWN

We offer a church building in a delightful rural location. Alongside is Witton Dene, a local nature reserve, and a network of footpaths take the walker out into peaceful countryside. Both church and churchyard have an aura of peace that stems from the centuries of prayer in the church. We want to share this wonderful place, not only with the people of Witton Gilbert and the surrounding area, but also with visitors coming to enjoy the history and beauty of our countryside.
A Walk Leaflet (produced in conjunction with Durham County Council) outlines two alternative signed walks from Durham (2 – 3 hours each way) and the church is open every Saturday from 11 am – 3pm in June, July, and August to welcome people – whether they arrive on foot, by bicycle, by bus, or by car. Pick up a leaflet in church or click here and try out the walks.
